Electric Fleet Vehicles

Benefits for Company Car Drivers

For company car drivers looking to potentially minimise BIK costs, EVs are an obvious choice.

Driving down costs

Electric cars are becoming more popular and more accessible as each year goes by. One of the reasons is that they attract low benefit in kind rates, which means they can be a really cost-effective option when choosing a new company car.

Company car drivers could achieve a range of savings by choosing a plug-in electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle instead of a 'traditional' internal combustion engine model.

Benefit-in-kind tax: for company car drivers looking to potentially minimise BIK costs, Electric Vehicles (EVs) are an obvious choice. In the 2020/21 tax year a SEAT Mii electric with a P11D price of £22,745 will attract 0% BIK, so there is no BIK tax to pay.

Fuels costs: Fuel cost savings are another attraction. A SEAT Mii electric costs approximately 3p per mile for electricity which is lower than that of an equivalent petrol city car*.

A sensible choice

As well as financial savings, there are also other potential benefits of switching to electric to consider.

Many large cities are planning their own congestion or exclusion zones to improve air quality, choosing an EV as your company car will help support these initiatives.

  • At around 3p per mile, an electric car could potentially save you a significant amount of money on private mileage*
  • As eligible EVs are exempt from the London Congestion Charge, you’ll save £15 every time you enter the zone**
  • Eligible EVs are exempt from any access restrictions or charges to all currently announced clean air zones**

* Based on the average home electricity rate is about 14.4p per kWh, but you should look at your specific energy tariff. For example, Mii electric has a 36.8kWh battery, so at 14.4p per kWh it could cost around £5.30 to “fill up”. With a range of between 160 and 222 miles, the cost per mile is between 2 and 3 pence. The cost of home charging will vary depending on your electricity rate.
