How do I charge my Mii electric?

You can charge your SEAT electric car anywhere. Just like a petrol or diesel car, the Mii electric has a fuel filler cap, but instead of a traditional fuel tank, behind the cover is a socket where you plug the connector to charge the battery.

Where can I charge my Mii electric?

At home

You can charge your car using a connector that can be plugged into standard domestic three-pin socket. However, it’s best to install a home wall box, which will charge your car up to three times faster.

We recommend that when you install a home wall box, you go through an accredited installer like Pod Point, who will be able to assist you through the whole process. You’ll receive a pre-installation consultation followed by a full demonstration once the work has been completed. They’ll even manage the grant application on your behalf, which could save you up to £500.

Pod Point also offer a free three-year warranty on all their installations and Wi-Fi connectivity for real-time updates.

Out and about

Your Mii electric can be charged at any compatible fast or rapid charging station. There are a significant number of public charging points in the UK that offer either pay-as-you-go or a subscription model to pay for charging. Some points are actually completely free of charge to use. To find your nearest charging points, you can use applications like Zap-Map. Just use the filters to select a Type 2 connector for Fast Charging or a CCS for Rapid Charging.

How long does it take to charge?

The Mii electric’s 36.8 kWh battery will charge to 80% in around four hours using a standard home wall box. A three-pin domestic plug can take up to 16 hours to charge your car, while a rapid public charge point can be as quick as one hour.

Take a look at how long each charging method takes to get the battery up to 80%*

*Your vehicle’s battery recoups the first 20% of its charge more quickly. The charging speed will slow down once the battery is 80% full in order to prevent heating, which can reduce your battery’s longevity. That’s why we’ve used 80% as the measure as shown above

What affects the charging speed of a vehicle?

There are various factors that can affect how long your Mii electric takes to charge. Generally speaking, these are the main three.

1.     The vehicle charging capabilities: When you’re charging using AC, the on-board charger affects the charging speed. On-board chargers vary in capacity from 3kW to 22kW, while DC charging relies on the model and battery capabilities. which can vary anywhere from 20-300kW.

2.     Power from the charging unit: Your car cannot charge faster than the unit’s maximum capacity. If your car has a capability of 11kW when charging with AC and if it’s plugged into a 7kW unit, that’s how fast it will charge. The Mii electric’s DC charging capability is 40kW.

3.     The size of the battery: Larger batteries take longer to charge – no surprise there. For example, a 8.8kWh battery will take around 2 hours and 15 minutes to charge with a 3.6kW charger, while a 18.7kWh battery would take around six hours.
