SEAT: WORKING FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Lots of people talk about caring for the environment. But at SEAT, we’re more interested in actions. We’re determined to be environmentally responsible, and to search out new ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We’re working on new ways to build a truly sustainable business that safeguards the environment without compromising on quality or driving pleasure.

Learn more about our environmental programmes where SEAT is making a difference right now:

  • By ramping up our commitment to Ecomobility
  • By replacing trucks with trains between sites in Spain
  • By implementing a huge renewable energy plant
  • By increasing vehicle efficiency without compromising performance

Electric transportation for all

With two electric models entering large-scale testing in 2012, we are showing a strong commitment to Ecomobility. The new Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive combines local zero-emissions driving with long range. The battery-electric Altea XL Electric Ecomotive has a 115PS engine and a range of 84 miles, making it practical for families and businesses alike. Electromobility is a key part of our corporate strategy of ongoing improvements in sustainability and resource conservation.

Following that commitment, we envisage the launch of our first electric plug-in hybrid car in 2015, to be followed in 2016 by an all-electric car.

Efficient, responsible logistics

Being an environmentally-responsible carmaker isn’t just about making more efficient cars. In order to reduce our reliance on heavy trucks, SEAT has invested €8.6m in building a dedicated rail link between our facilities in Martorell and the Zona Franca near Barcelona. Two 205 meter long diesel trains carry approximately one million cubic metres of spare parts per year along the 25 mile line. Add that the trains now are carrying completed cars to the Port of Barcelona for distribution, and we have cut our heavy vehicle road trips by 57,000 per year.

Renewable energy

Our commitment to energy efficiency was underlined in July 2011 when we became the first Spanish company to be awarded certification for ISO 50,001 – the worldwide standard for sustainability, energy efficiency and the environment. We have spent over €17 million installing more than 20,000 photovoltaic panels on the roof of our plant at Martorell, which together can generate around 13 million kWh of clean electricity every year – reducing our CO2 emissions by about 6,200 tones.

SEAT Ecomotive

Finally, SEAT is and always will be a car company. And our drive towards environmental awareness wouldn’t be complete without environmentally-responsible vehicles. Ecomotive is a simple principle: reducing emissions, fuel consumption and cost without losing the emotion you feel behind the wheel of a SEAT.

Our new E-Ecomotive models are our greenest yet, with extremely low emissions thanks to the Start & Stop system, brake energy recovery, improved aerodynamics and low resistance tyres.
